All leather potions, soaps, conditioners, etc. are not created equal. First of all, leather has to be cleaned BEFORE it can be treated.
Most of the leather-care products on the market simply cover the surface, giving the leather a nice looking finish, but doing very little to clean and soften the leather beneath the surface.
If the leather product is thick like wax it will remain firm when it is on the leather and not penetrate beneath the surface very far. What is needed is a leather product that is liquid and will remain liquid even in colder temperatures.
The best and cheapest way of cleaning leather is to wash it with dish cleaner and warm water. Allow the water to soak in and scrub it until the leather is clean. Dab the leather dry with a cloth and then allow it to completely dry at room temperature, away from direct sunlight. Once the leather is perfectly dry, wipe on BAILEY'S LEATHER OIL.
You will see the leather soak up the oil and take on that rich warm texture that looks so expensive.
BAILEY'S LEATHER OIL will darken some leathers; test it on a sample patch first to be sure that the finish is desirable. The oil will soften the leather and render it impervious to water absorption and spotting.
BAILEY'S LEATHER OIL is available from better tack shops or directly from the manufacturer, and comes in 1/2 litre, 1 litre and 2 litre bottles
